Top Podcasts Indie Authors Should be Listening to

Calling all you lovers of words and consumers of content. We want to grow our authorpreneur business across the board, but there are only a limited number of hours in a day. How can we dedicate our time to growing when we also need to be writing, marketing, editing, communicating, indexing, financing… the list could go on forever.

Learning is always within reach, and the growing popularity is via podcasts. You can listen on your morning dog walk, as you’re driving to work or school, while you’re doing chores, and quite literally anywhere you have headphones. But with the growing popularity, there is also a growing number of options.

Below, and in no particular order, are some podcasts that we at Author Bound really enjoy. From business to writing tips, you can find almost anything you want here. And, if you reach the end of the list and see something that we missed or is just missing from the podcast archives, let us know in the comments!

The Creative Penn Podcast for Writers

Full of inspiration, interviews, and information on all aspects of writing and business, you’ll walk away with a great attitude and an effective plan to move forward with your own work. Joanna Penn has been providing help to authors for years, using her own success and journey to help guide you through every part of the process. Beginning authors to seasoned authors will get something out of this.

Writing Excuses

From their website: “Our goal is to help our listeners become better writers. Whether they write for fun or for profit, whether they’re new to the domain or old hands, Writing Excuses has something to offer. We love to write, and our listeners do, too.”

Even more exciting, in 2021 they are dividing their season into ‘master classes’ where each week you’ll be getting podcasts as if you’re taking a course. Grab your notebooks, because we are starting the year with the business of writing with Brandon Sanderson.

The Rebel Author Podcast

This is for all the authors who don’t mind hearing the good, the bad, and the ugly of writing and life. If you’re motivated by swear-filled pep talks, Sacha Black is your perfect host. Learn the ropes and then find out how to rebel against them to create your own story.

DIY MFA Radio

Gabriella Pereira hosts incredible authors with great writing and publishing details. You’re going to see all sides with her interviews, because she does the research and brings out the best in everyone she hosts.

Write-minded

Get weekly inspiration and insight on the ups and downs of writing life. There are great takeaways from each show, and if you’re a believer that every story matters, you’ll walk away with so much positivity that you can take into your own writing.

Confessions of a Writing Addict

Are we biased? Sure, but there are some great tips from the creative life to writing struggles. Each episode features a writing confession, where Winter talks about roadblocks and other struggles writers face while giving feedback on how to overcome those challenges. You can even submit your own ‘confessions’ and be featured on the show with tips on how to get back to writing.

Author Bound

Maybe we’re still biased. Author Bound’s podcast is an audio version of things you can find here on our blog. We cover the business side of being an author so you can get back to the part you really enjoy – writing! You can catch up on all episodes right in your browser or find us wherever you listen to podcasts.

Think we missed something? Is there some part of the self publishing business you want to know more about? Let us know in the comments!
